UPDATE: Traffic shifts, lane restrictions on Historic Route 66 in Flagstaff continue through May 23

Drivers should avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible; use caution and allow extra travel time if the area cannot be avoided.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists who use Historic Route 66 (B40) in Flagstaff to expect traffic shifts and lane restrictions as work continues on the Rio De Flag Bridge replacement project.

The following traffic shift will occur from Monday, May 10, through Sunday, May 23:

  • The east- and westbound travel lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the north or south side of the roadway, depending on the work being done.
  • The eastbound left-turn lane to northbound US 180 and the eastbound left turn to Sitgreaves/Santa Fe will be closed. Use signed detour routes for US180 access.

In addition, the following restrictions will be in place through Sunday, May 23 on Historic Route 66 (B40):

  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph between Butler Avenue and Beaver Street.
  • A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.

During the traffic shift, eastbound Historic Route 66 to northbound US 180 (Humphreys Street) traffic will be detoured to east Butler Avenue to north San Francisco Street to west Columbus Avenue to access north US 180 (Humphreys Street).

Drivers should avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible. If drivers find it necessary to travel through the work zone, proceed with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
