A stretch of northbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) will be closed between Indian School and Camelback roads this weekend (April 23-26) for pavement repair work, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers should consider alternate routes to avoid traffic backups while the following restrictions are in place:
Northbound SR 51 closed between Indian School and Camelback roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (April 26) for pavement repairs. The northbound SR 51 on-ramp at Thomas Road and off-ramp at Bethany Home Road also will be closed. DETOUR: Drivers should consider alternate routes to avoid congestion in areas near the closure. Alternate northbound freeway routes include I-17 or Loop 101. Drivers exiting northbound SR 51 at Indian School Road can consider the following detour options:
- Travel west on Indian School Road to northbound 16th Street and use either eastbound Colter Street or Bethany Home Road to enter northbound SR 51.
- Travel east on Indian School Road to northbound 24th Street and use westbound Camelback Road to northbound 18th Street/17th Place to enter northbound SR 51 at Colter Street.
