Pima Freeway Improvement Project (I-17 to Pima Road) - Closures and restrictions scheduled through April 24 

Drivers who use the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) between Interstate 17 in Phoenix and Pima Road in Scottsdale should slow down in the construction zone and use caution while the following closures and restrictions are in place. Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.

NOTE: Diamond grinding of the concrete pavement will resume in May starting with the stretch of westbound Loop 101 between 56th Street and State Route 51. Watch for more details on restart dates/times and corresponding closures or restrictions.

WEEKEND CLOSURES AND RESTRICTIONS

Pima Freeway between State Route 51 and Seventh Street

• The westbound Pima Freeway between State Route 51 and Seventh Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 19.
  • Detour: Drivers must use southbound State Route 51, exit onto westbound Union Hills Drive, then turn north on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway.

State Route 51 at the Pima Freeway

• The northbound State Route 51 on-ramp to the westbound Pima Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 19.
• Detour: Drivers may exit State Route 51 onto Black Mountain Boulevard, turn west on Deer Valley Drive, then south on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway.
• Alternate Detour: Drivers can exit State Route 51 ahead of the closure onto westbound Union Hills Drive, then turn north on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway.

Cave Creek Road at the Pima Freeway

• The westbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at Cave Creek Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday April 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 19.
  • Detour North of Freeway: From Cave Creek Road, turn west on Deer Valley Drive, then south on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway. Drivers can consider using the westbound Pima Freeway frontage road (Beardsley Road) to Seventh Street as an alternate route to access the westbound Pima Freeway.
  • Detour South of Freeway: From Cave Creek Road, turn west on Union Hills Drive, then north on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway.

56th Street at the Pima Freeway

• The westbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at 56th Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 19.
  • Detour North of Freeway: From 56th Street, turn west on Deer Valley Road, then south on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway.
  • Detour South of Freeway: From 56th Street, turn west on Mayo Boulevard, south on Tatum Boulevard, west on Union Hills Drive, then north on Seventh Street to access the westbound Pima Freeway.

Pima Freeway between State Route 51 and Tatum Boulevard

• The eastbound Pima Freeway right lane between State Route 51 and Tatum Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, April 22, to 5 a.m. Friday, April 23, and again from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.

Pima Freeway between Interstate 17 and Seventh Street

• The eastbound Pima Freeway between I-17 and Seventh Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Southbound Detour: Drivers may use southbound I-17, exit onto eastbound Union Hills Drive, then turn north on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.
  • Northbound Detour: Drivers traveling northbound on I-17, may exit onto eastbound Union Hills Drive, then turn south on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

State Route 51 at the Pima Freeway

• The westbound Pima Freeway on-ramp to southbound State Route 51 will be narrowed to one lane from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.

Pima Freeway between Tatum Boulevard and State Route 51

• The westbound Pima Freeway between Tatum Boulevard and the State Route 51 will be narrowed to three lanes from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.

Interstate 17 at the Pima Freeway

• The northbound I-17 on-ramp to the eastbound Pima Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Detour South of the Pima Freeway: Drivers may exit I-17 onto eastbound Union Hills Drive, then turn north on 19th Avenue to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.
• The southbound I-17 on-ramp to the eastbound Pima Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Detour North of the Pima Freeway: Drivers may exit I-17 onto eastbound Deer Valley Road, then turn south on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

27th Avenue at the Pima Freeway

• The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at 27th Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Detour: Drivers may use the eastbound Pima Freeway frontage road (Beardsley Road), turn south on 19th Avenue, then east on Union Hills Drive and north on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

19th Avenue at the Pima Freeway

• The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at 19th Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Detour: Drivers may use southbound 19th Avenue, turn east on Union Hills Drive, then north on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

Seventh Avenue at the Pima Freeway

• The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at Seventh Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Detour: Drivers may use southbound Seventh Avenue, turn east on Union Hills Drive, then north on Seventh Street to access the eastbound Pima Freeway.

Tatum Boulevard at the Pima Freeway

• The westbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at Tatum Boulevard will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 26.
  • Detour North of Freeway: From Tatum Boulevard, drivers may turn west on Deer Valley Drive, then south on Cave Creek Road to access the westbound Pima Freeway.
  • Detour South of the Freeway: From Tatum Boulevard, drivers may turn west on Union Hills Drive to northbound State Route 51 to access the westbound Pima Freeway.
