SR 87 lane restrictions south of Payson begin Feb. 22

Restrictions continue through May

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan for daytime lane restrictions on State Route 87 approximately 25 miles south of Payson from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Monday, Feb. 22, through the end of May as work is performed on a slope stabilization project in the area.

Drivers should slow down, proceed through the work zones with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Northbound SR 87 will be narrowed to one lane from milepost 223 to 224 and from milepost 229 to 230.
    • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zones.
  • Southbound SR 87 will be narrowed to one lane from milepost 229 to 230.
    • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone.
  • Drivers are advised to watch for construction trucks, which will be entering and leaving the roadway frequently throughout the project to haul dirt and debris from the construction site.

Lane restrictions will be lifted after 6 p.m. on weekdays (noon on Fridays) and all day on weekends.

Although a vehicle width limit of 14 feet will be in effect, operators of wider vehicles can make arrangements for passage through the work zones at least two days in advance by calling ADOT’s James Laird at 928.970.0610.
