The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for the upcoming closure of Interstate 40 and the Meteor Crater Bridge - about 30 miles east of Flagstaff - as work begins on the bridge rehabilitation project.
ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place:
- East- and westbound I-40 will be closed at Meteor Crater Road from 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.
-
Detour: Drivers will use the on- and off-ramps at the I-40/Meteor Crater Road interchange to exit and re-enter the highway.
- A 15-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
- Meteor Crater Road will be closed between the east- and westbound on- and off-ramps from 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
-
Detour from westbound I-40 to southbound Meteor Crater Road: Exit at Two Guns Road (milepost 230) and then re-enter the highway eastbound and exit at Meteor Crater Road.
-
Detour from northbound Meteor Crater Road to westbound I-40: Drive eastbound on I-40 and exit at Meteor City Road. Re-enter the highway to proceed westbound on I-40.
- A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
- Meteor Crater Bridge will be narrowed to one lane of alternating traffic beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, through June 2021. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
