Drivers should plan for overnight closures and possible travel delays on Interstate 40 next week as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues work on the St. Anselm Road bridge reconstruction project between US 191 and the New Mexico state line in the community of Houck.
ADOT reminds drivers to slow down near the closure and adhere to lower speed limits in the construction zone while the following restrictions are in place:
- Eastbound I-40 will be closed overnight at St. Anselm Road (milepost 348) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 19, and continuing through the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 21.
- Westbound I-40 will be closed overnight at St. Anselm Road (milepost 348) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Oct. 21, and continuing through the morning of Friday, Oct. 23.
- Drivers will use the on- and off-ramps at the St. Anselm Road interchange to exit and re-enter the highway.
All I-40 ramps and frontage roads will remain open during the highway closures.
Next week’s closures are needed so crews can safely remove construction materials from the new bridge deck on the 244-foot-long St. Anselm Road bridge, which was constructed in 1967.
The St. Anselm Road bridge rehabilitation work is part of a larger ADOT project that will also reconstruct the Black Creek bridge over I-40. Construction on the Black Creek bridge is scheduled to begin in fall 2020. The Black Creek and St. Anselm Road bridges are located about one mile apart.
