UPDATE: Ramp closures and restrictions planned for Happy Valley Road

New Interchange at Happy Valley Road opens Oct. 11

Update: This updates the previous alert sent earlier today.

Drivers who use Interstate 17 in north Phoenix should slow down in the construction zone and use caution while the following restrictions are in place.

Closures and restrictions through Oct. 11

Ramp closure:

The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Happy Valley Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday (Oct. 2) until 5 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 6). 

  • Detour: Northbound drivers can exit I-17 at Deer Valley Road and use 19th Avenue to Happy Valley Road.

Interstate 17 from Pinnacle Peak to Happy Valley roads:

  • Southbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane from 9 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 7) until 5 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 8).
  • Northbound I-17 will be restricted to one lane from 9 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 8) until 5 a.m. Friday (Oct. 9).

Happy Valley Road at Interstate 17

East- and westbound Happy Valley Road will be closed between 29th Avenue and Norterra Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 until 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11. 

  • Detour: Drivers can use 43rd or 19th avenues to Pinnacle Peak Road as an alternate route.

Ongoing closures

The following closures are in place until Oct. 11:

  • The northbound I-17 on-ramp and the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Happy Valley Road is closed.  
  • The southbound frontage road is closed between Jomax and Happy Valley roads, and the northbound frontage road is closed between Happy Valley Road and Agave. 
    • Detour: Traffic can use the Jomax Road interchange for I-17 access via 19th Avenue.  
  • The northbound frontage road is closed from Charlotte Drive to the I-17 Happy Valley Road off-ramp from 9 p.m. Sunday (Sept 27) until 5 a.m. Monday (November 2).  The northbound I-17 Happy Valley Road off-ramp will remain open.
    • Detour: Traffic can use Charlotte Drive west to 23rd Avenue to access Happy Valley Road.
