Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road over Interstate 10 to close May 27

I-10/State Route 83 bridge to fully reopen to traffic by June 1

Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road over Interstate 10 near Vail will close to all traffic for about two months starting the night of Wednesday, May 27.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is adjusting the original phasing plan for the bridge deck project over eastbound I-10 in order to complete the work ahead of schedule.

The bridge was scheduled to be resurfaced one half at a time, which would have taken about five months. However, due to reduced traffic volumes, ADOT is working with the contractor to expedite this project by completing the work all at once.

The bridge is scheduled to remain closed until the end of July. All ramps will remain open, but traffic will be unable to cross I-10. Vehicles needing to cross I-10 should use Houghton Road or State Route 83.

The SR 83 bridge over I-10 will fully open on June 1. Between May 27 and June 1, crews will maintain access across the bridge at all hours using the temporary traffic signal or flaggers. Drivers should continue to anticipate delays.

During the deck replacement project at Colossal Cave and Wentworth roads, motorists on eastbound I-10 will encounter nightly lane restrictions near the work zone between 7:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Eastbound traffic will be directed to use the exit ramp and re-enter I-10 using the entrance ramp.

Final paving and guardrail work will be completed at both bridges after the Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road bridge reopens.
