Motorists on State Route 87 near Sacaton on the Gila River Indian Community should expect intermittent shoulder closures starting the week of May 11, as a signal installation project begins.
New signals will be installed at three intersections along SR 87:
- SR 187/Olberg Road (milepost 146)
- Sacaton Road (milepost 151)
- Gilbert Road (milepost 156)
Initial work on the project is anticipated to start at the intersection of SR 87 and Gilbert Road. Crews will then proceed southeast to the Sacaton Road and SR 187/Olberg Road locations.
Crews will be boring beneath the roadways and constructing foundations for the new signal poles.
While intermittent delays are possible, traffic impacts are expected to be minimal during this phase of the project, which will last several weeks.
Additional delays are anticipated during signal pole and striping installation later in the project.
Overall, work is expected to extend through the end of 2020.
