Travel Alert: Interstate 10 in Avondale scheduled to close in both directions beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, March 13

Plan ahead and expect delays as new interchange project in Avondale continues to make progress

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers who use Interstate10 (Papago Freeway) in the West Valley to plan ahead and expect delays between Dysart Road and Avondale Boulevard as Interstate 10 is scheduled to close in both directions beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, March 13, through 5 p.m. Sunday, March 15, for bridgework.

Drivers should anticipate delays in both directions as traffic will be narrowed to one lane and diverted up and over the newly constructed freeway ramps at Fairway Drive. Law enforcement will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Several ramps near the new interchange will also be closed intermittently.

  • Both east- and westbound I-10 are scheduled to be closed beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, March 13 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14.
  • Eastbound I-10 is scheduled to remain closed through 5 p.m., Sunday, March 15.
  • The eastbound on-ramps at Dysart and Litchfield roads will be closed.
  • The westbound on-ramps at 107th Avenue and Avondale Boulevard will be closed.

Alternate detour routes include McDowell Road or Van Buren Street.

*The schedule may be adjusted as work progresses.

Drivers should use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the interchange at I-10 and Fairway Drive is constructed. For more information, please visit the project website.
