Sentinel, Mohawk rest area closures on I-8 planned March 9-11

Motorists should plan for closures of up to 14 hours for pavement work

PHOENIX – Motorists traveling on Interstate 8 between Yuma and Gila Bend should plan for closures of the Mohawk and Sentinel rest areas for up to 14 hours at a time from March 9-11.

The closures are scheduled while crews apply a sealant to extend the life of the asphalt at the rest areas.

The closures are scheduled as follows:

  • The westbound Sentinel Rest Area will be closed Monday, March 9, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The eastbound Sentinel Rest Area will be closed Wednesday, March 11, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The westbound Mohawk Rest Area will be closed Tuesday, March 10, from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The eastbound Mohawk Rest Area will be closed Wednesday, March 11, from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Sentinel Rest Areas are near milepost 83 and are about 20 miles east of Dateland and 30 miles west of Gila Bend. The Mohawk Rest Areas are at milepost 56 and are 50 miles east of Yuma and 11 miles west of Dateland.

During the westbound Sentinel Rest Area closure, motorists can use the Mohawk Rest Area. While the eastbound Mohawk Rest Area is closed, motorists can use the Sentinel Rest Area.
