Motorists should expect overnight restrictions on the Interstate 10 frontage roads and Sunset Road off-ramp starting Tuesday, Feb. 11. Crews will be preparing for the upcoming closure of the I-10/Ruthrauff Road interchange.
The following restrictions are scheduled from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12:
- The eastbound I-10 exit ramp to Sunset Road will close.
- The eastbound I-10 frontage road will close between Orange Grove and Sunset roads.
- The left lane of the westbound I-10 frontage road will close between Ruthrauff and Sunset roads.
The closures will allow crews to adjust striping on the frontage road and install a "Florida T" intersection on the westbound I-10 frontage road at Sunset Road. The Florida T layout was used during the Ina Road interchange reconstruction project. As vehicles approach Sunset Road, drivers in the left lane must stop, and drivers in the right lane may continue directly toward Orange Grove Road without stopping.
As a reminder, the Arizona Department of Transportation will close the Interstate 10/Ruthrauff Road interchange starting the night of Friday, Feb. 14. The process to fully close the interchange will take place over two nights.
By the morning of Sunday, Feb. 16, the following traffic restrictions will be in place:
- Ruthrauff Road and El Camino del Cerro will be closed to all traffic between Highway Drive/Davis Avenue and the business entrances west of I-10.
- All ramps between I-10 and Ruthrauff Road/El Camino del Cerro will close, except for the westbound I-10 off-ramp. It will remain open to provide access to westbound I-10 frontage road businesses only.
- The eastbound frontage road will be converted into a two-way road south of Sunset Road. There will be no access to El Camino del Cerro from the frontage road.
- The eastbound frontage road will be converted to a two-way road northwest of Prince Road. There will be no access to or from El Camino del Cerro from the frontage road.
- The westbound frontage road will close northwest of Prince Road.
The map below shows the expected traffic configuration for the phase of he project starting Sunday, Feb. 16.
