Section of SR 88 north of Apache Junction closed Monday, Sept 30

ADOT to check recent storm damage and plan for necessary repairs

A 9-mile stretch of State Route 88 (Apache Trail) between Apache Junction and Tortilla Flat will be closed during the day on Monday, Sept. 30, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Parts of the highway that travels through the Tonto National Forest were damaged by recent heavy rains.

The section of SR 88 between Needle Vista Viewpoint (milepost 204) and Tortilla Flat (milepost 213), north of Apache Junction, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. During the closure ADOT will continue to assess damage from storm runoff in order to prepare for future repair work.

Meanwhile, the stretch of SR 88 between Tortilla Flat and the State Route 188 junction near Roosevelt Lake remains closed to traffic. The Apache Trail in that area is mostly an unpaved dirt roadway. It also is located near the burn scar created by the recent Woodbury Fire.
