Swanson Avenue set to close next week in downtown Lake Havasu City for final upgrades

Motorists should plan ahead and use an alternate route

Motorists in Lake Havasu City who use Swanson Avenue east of Smoketree Avenue and west of Acoma Boulevard should plan ahead to use an alternate route for two weeks while this roadway is closed for the final phase of the downtown improvement project.

Swanson Avenue is scheduled to be closed beginning at 5 a.m., Monday, July 29, and remain closed through 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15. The closure is necessary for crews to remove the existing asphalt, repave and stripe the road.

Business access will be maintained at all times. Detour signage is in place providing access to businesses and local streets throughout the project area.

The city began improving Swanson Avenue in May, and the Arizona Department of Transportation is administering the project. The upgrades include reconstructing the area between the intersections of Acoma Boulevard and Smoketree Avenue and building a new multi-use path and bicycle lane.

The project is expected to be completed in September 2019.
