Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) scheduled to close this weekend in north Phoenix for widening project

Drivers should allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers who use Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) in north Phoenix to plan for an eastbound closure this weekend.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution while the following closures are in place:

  • Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between Seventh Street and Cave Creek Road from 10 p.m. Friday, March 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 4.
  • Loop 101 eastbound on-ramps at 19th Avenue, Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street will also be closed through the weekend closure hours.

Motorists should expect delays and use the following recommended detours while the weekend closure is in place:

  • Detour for eastbound Loop 101 traffic: Exit at Seventh Street to detour along the Beardsley frontage road before re-entering the freeway at Cave Creek Road.
  • Motorists should consider using Deer Valley Road and Union Hills Drive as alternate routes to access eastbound Loop 101 at Cave Creek Road.

The closure is needed as work gets underway on a two-year project to add new lanes on the freeway between Interstate 17 in Phoenix and Pima Road in Scottsdale. Weekend closures are scheduled to continue through March as crews place temporary concrete barriers and shift lane striping throughout the project’s work zone.

Work on the Loop 101 Improvement project is scheduled to last through early 2021. Learn more at azdot.gov/Loop101Improvements.
