UPDATED: Plan for overnight restrictions on State Route 143 for pavement work

Drivers who use State Route 143 in Phoenix should plan for overnight lane and ramp closures as the Arizona Department of Transportation does pavement-improvement work. ADOT advises drivers to plan for the following restrictions:

  • SR 143 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Washington Street and McDowell Road beginning Sunday, Sept. 16, and continuing through the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 21.
  • All work is scheduled to occur between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • While work is occurring in the right lanes Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, the ramp from eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to McDowell Road will be closed. Detour: Exit eastbound Loop 202 at 40th Street to access McDowell Road. Also, access from westbound McDowell Road to westbound Loop 202 will be closed overnight Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Detour: Take westbound McDowell Road to southbound 40th Street to access westbound Loop 202.
  • Motorists bound for Sky Harbor International Airport on southbound SR 143 from Loop 202 should allow extra travel time and consider an alternate route.

ADOT will maintain one lane of travel in each direction on SR 143, but delays are possible. Drivers should slow down, obey all traffic-control devices and use caution around crews and equipment.
