A stretch of State Route 88, also known as the Apache
Trail, will be closed near Tortilla Flat northeast of Apache Junction on
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (June 12-13) for rock-removal work. Drivers
should delay travel or use alternate routes while the closures are in place.
The removal of some boulders next to the highway is part
of an ongoing Arizona Department of Transportation SR 88 highway improvement
and safety project. A one-mile stretch
of the Apache Trail will be closed between mileposts 213 and 214 near Tortilla
Flat from 6 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Crews are scheduled to remove two boulders located near
the roadway. The rock-removal work is being done before chip-seal is applied
along that part of SR 88.
Project schedules are subject
to change due to inclement weather or other factors.
Highway conditions are
available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, by calling 511 and through ADOT’s Twitter feed, @ArizonaDOT.
