Drivers using State Route 273 in the White Mountains should
plan extra travel time next week as delays up to 30 minutes are expected due to
an Arizona Department of Transportation pavement preservation project.
The roadway work is scheduled to be done from 6 a.m. to 6
p.m. Monday, May 14, through Thursday, May 17, on SR 273 at the junction with
SR 260. The pavement project will cover the entire 20-mile stretch of SR 273,
from milepost 377 to milepost 397.
SR 273 will be narrowed to one lane of alternating travel while
crews apply an oil-based surface sealant on the roadways. Flaggers and a pilot
car will direct drivers through the work zone.
ADOT crews plan to close 5- to 7-mile segments of roadway at
a time. This will enable sections of the road to reopen as crews complete work
and move on to other segments. The road will fully reopen to two lanes of
travel every evening after crews finish for the day.
