The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) was notified of multiple reports of people experiencing serious adverse effects after consuming certain microdose candy/chocolate bars, specifically Diamond Shruumz-brand candy/chocolate bars, cones, and/or gummies.
The patients have required emergency transport, emergency department evaluation, and in some instances, intensive care admission. Six cases have been reported to the two poison centers in Arizona, and additional cases have been reported by other states.
Information for consumers:
- Do not eat or consume Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies until further notice.
- Safely dispose of any Diamond Shruumz-brand product you may have or return it to the retailer it was purchased from.
- “Microdosing” products are not Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved, and the ingredients listed may not be accurate.
- Ingredients not listed may have unknown adverse health effects.
- Serious adverse effects, such as seizures, hallucinations, and loss of consciousness, have occurred after ingesting these products.
If you become ill after consuming these products, please contact your health care provider and/or call the Poison Control helpline at 1-800-222-1222. Let them know you have recently consumed the Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, and/or gummies. Make sure to follow up with your primary care provider if necessary.
If you recently became ill and would like to report your case, please contact your local health department and fill out a MedWatch online form. MedWatch is a reporting system that directly informs the FDA when consumers have adverse effects from food products regulated by the FDA.
Retailers should not sell or distribute Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies until further notice. The FDA’s investigation is ongoing. If tobacco distributors or smoke/vaping shops have any questions, please contact ADHS at azrecalls@azdhs.gov.
