Jackrabbit Trail/ I-10 Interchange
Work is set to begin this month on the Jackrabbit Trail and Interstate 10 interchange. Led by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), this project has long been a top regional transportation priority. Once complete, the upgraded corridor will improve traffic flow, increase capacity and support continued growth throughout Buckeye.
Phase 1 Improvements
-
Interchange Signals: Reconstruct the interchange and install new traffic signals
-
Expanded Ramps: Widen interchange ramps to provide additional turn lanes
-
Bridge Reconstruction: Replace and rebuild the existing I-10 bridges over Jackrabbit Trail
-
Jackrabbit Trail: Expand Jackrabbit Trail to three lanes in each direction from McDowell Road to south of I-10
Phase 1 construction is anticipated to start in August of 2026 and should wrap up in 2028.
Phase 2 Improvements
-
Corridor Extension: Expand Jackrabbit Trail to three lanes in each direction from I-10 to Van Buren Street.
Phase 2 is expected to start in 2028, once Phase 1 is complete.
While ADOT manages the I-10/Jackrabbit Trail interchange, work also continues on a key city-led roadway enhancement nearby:
We appreciate the community’s continued patience and cooperation as these critical infrastructure investments move forward across Buckeye.

Reconfiguration of Monroe Avenue: Complete
Last August, City Council voted to move forward with a three-lane design for Monroe Ave. aimed at making Downtown Buckeye safer and more accessible for everyone.
We are excited to announce that construction is complete!
This design maintains one travel lane in each direction while adding a continuous center turn lane to streamline traffic flow. To enhance downtown's functionality, the project included parallel parking on both sides of the street, closer to the curb.
By moving to three lanes, the city improved the line of sight for drivers and created a more secure environment for pedestrians.

Intersection Closure: Verrado & Yuma
Work continues to widen the intersection of Verrado Way and Yuma Road to its final configuration.
This project includes adding new travel lanes in both directions on Verrado from Yuma to Van Buren, as well as installing upgraded traffic signals, street lighting and drainage improvements.
To finish the project nearly a year ahead of schedule and save millions in costs compared to a phased approach, the intersection will remain fully closed into the fall. While access to local businesses, schools and residences will be maintained throughout construction, please plan for extra travel time as detours may not be direct.

Watson and Broadway Intersection Improvements
Construction is underway at the intersection of Watson Road and Broadway Road as infrastructure improvements move forward. Southwest Gas is currently finishing utility relocations throughout the area, and full roadwork will begin as those utility updates wrap up.
This project includes constructing the western half of Watson Road approaching the intersection and installing an interim intersection design to enhance safety and optimize traffic flow.
Throughout the work, the intersection will remain open to traffic, though drivers are encouraged to exercise caution and allow extra travel time when navigating the area. The project is anticipated to be complete in the spring of 2027.
