Secretary of State Appointee Cole Jester to Be Sworn In
Ceremony to Take Place Thursday, January 2nd, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
in the Old Supreme Court Room of the State Capitol
(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.) – A public swearing-in ceremony will be held for Secretary of State Appointee Cole Jester on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Old Supreme Court Room of the State Capitol. Jester was appointed by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on December 20th to fill the remaining two years of Secretary of State John Thurston's term, as he departs to become Treasurer of State. Jester will be Arkansas' 35th Secretary of State. Supreme Court Associate Justice Cody Hiland will administer the oath of office. Media and the public are welcome to attend.
About Cole Jester
Incoming Arkansas Secretary of State Cole Jester was appointed by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on December 20, 2024, to fill the term of Secretary of State. He will be sworn into office on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Cole previously served two years as the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel for Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. There, he was instrumental in crafting legislation to stop the Chinese Communist Party from buying Arkansas farmland. He also served as a litigation advisor to the Governor in her work taking on Big Tech and the Biden EPA.
Before joining the Governor’s Office, Cole was an Appellate Clerk for Chief Judge Lavenski Smith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. While attending the University of Virginia School of Law, Cole clerked for the firm of Friday, Eldridge, & Clark, worked for the United States Air Force, and argued criminal cases in Virginia district court. Cole also served as the Managing Editor of The Journal of Law and Politics, founded in 1983 by Justice Antonin Scalia.
Cole is a Benton, Arkansas native who graduated valedictorian of Benton High School and summa cum laude from Ouachita Baptist University. He is a proud husband to his wife, Elizabeth, and father to his new daughter, Charlotte.
