Solid Waste Winter Storm Response
Update for Wednesday, January 28
The safety of Fort Smith residents and our solid waste workers is our primary consideration in getting back to work after the recent winter storm. We appreciate your patience, and expect to resume trash collections as follows.
“Dial-a Truck” bulky item pickups scheduled this week will be rescheduled for the earliest opportunity next week.
Thursday, January 29
-
No residential collections on Thursday. Side streets are still too icy for safe operations in residential neighborhoods.
- The landfill and Solid Waste Offices will be open on the normal schedule going forward.
-
Commercial collections will resume and service accounts as conditions allow. Please ensure dumpster enclosures and roll-off boxes are not blocked by snow piles.
Friday, January 30
-
Residential trash collections will resume, as conditions allow.
- Collection crews will start with Thursday and Friday routes.
- Recycling and yard waste will not be collected this week.
-
Collection trucks may be unable to service trash carts on snow covered or icy streets. Leave trash carts out and we will get them as soon as conditions allow.
Saturday, January 31
- Residential and commercial trash collections will work a full day, finishing Thursday and Friday routes. Some areas may still be too icy to service. Leave trash carts at the curb and they will be picked up as soon as we can safely get to them.
Next Week
-
Residential and commercial collections will resume normal schedules. Residential trash should be picked up on the scheduled day, or the day after in some cases as we catch up.
- So we can put extra resources into collecting trash, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Monday or Tuesday. We expect to resume collecting recycling on Thursday.
- We expect the landfill and Convenience Center to be very busy next week.
