City of Fort Smith Announces
Promotion of Darrell Clark to Fire Chief

FORT SMITH, AR—The City of Fort Smith is pleased to announce that Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Clark has been promoted to the position of Chief of the Fort Smith Fire Department, effective November 10, 2025.

Chief Clark has spent nearly 27 years advancing through the ranks of the Fort Smith Fire Department. Throughout his career, he has exhibited diligence in learning administrative responsibilities and preparing for leadership roles within the department.

Respected by his peers for his strong work ethic and dedication to the future and success of the Fort Smith Fire Department. Chief Clark has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this role through his service as Assistant Fire Chief since April 2023.   "I am honored to be entrusted with leading our department into the future. The greatness of the Fort Smith Fire Department comes from the brave men and women who have served in the past and continue to serve today," said Chief Clark. "I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many incredible leaders who have shaped my life and career. My predecessor, Chief Waters, offered me valuable advice that I’ll carry forward: 'This is an amazing department. Prepare the next generation of leaders and leave the department better than you found it, and you’ve done a good job.'"
