Sewer Rate Increases Approved
The City of Fort Smith Board of Directors approved proposed sewer rate increases during the February 21, 2025, meeting. Prior to the vote, a public hearing was held on February 4 to provide community members with an opportunity to learn about the proposed rate adjustments, ask questions, and share feedback directly with City officials and the Fort Smith Water Utilities Department.
The approved increase is 3.5% annually, beginning June 1, 2025, with subsequent increases taking effect on January 1 each year from 2026 through 2030. These sewer rate adjustments are necessary to help fund Consent Decree projects and sustain the ongoing operations of the Water Utilities Department, including routine maintenance and debt service coverage.
