Placing Signs in the City of Fort Smith
As election season is underway, we want to remind you of important regulations regarding the placement of campaign and political signs:

No signs may be placed in the City of Fort Smith or the Arkansas Department of Transportation street right-of-ways.
- The right-of-way generally includes the area between the public sidewalk and the street or, if no sidewalk exists, about 10 feet from the street’s edge.

Exceptions:

Weekend signs are allowed from noon Friday until noon Monday, as long as they are not on a utility pole or other public sign or device with the adjacent property owner's permission.

Non-profit organizations may place up to 3 signs in the right-of-way for up to 7 days to direct the public to events. These exceptions do not apply to State of Arkansas right-of-ways.

No signs may be placed anywhere in the City of Fort Smith without permission from the owner of the property or the owner of the adjacent property if in the right-of-way.

Non-City signs on City property are strictly prohibited.

Improperly placed signs may be removed by the City or, if on state highways, by the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

Examples of State Highways: Rogers Ave, Wheeler Ave, Towson Ave, Midland Blvd, Zero St, Garrison Ave, Highways 22, 45, 64, 71, 271, 255, and Interstate right-of-ways).
