Keep Hair Out of Drains and Toilets!
Did you know that flushing hair down the toilet (or rinsing it down drains) can cause serious plumbing problems?
Frequent flushing of hair can quickly lead to clogs in your pipes and cause problems in the City’s sewer system. It can stick to the inside of pipes, mix with soap and oils, and tangle with other debris. It builds up in large masses and gets caught in wastewater pump stations and in equipment at treatment plants, draining time and resources.
To prevent hair clogs:
- NEVER flush hair down the toilet.
- Use a drain protector or a mesh screen to catch hair in your shower and sink drains.
- Gather any loose hair in the bathtub or shower and throw it into the trash.
- Regularly clean the drain to keep water flowing smoothly.
