Can I Put Gravel In My Yard?
Gravel is not permitted in the front or side yard exterior.
The City of Fort Smith does not permit the dumping and spreading of gravel in the front yard or side yard exterior. Parking surfaces in the front or side yard exterior must be an improved surface such as concrete, asphalt or brick pavers per city ordinance. All improved parking surfaces cannot exceed the allotted 40 percent that is allowable.
Exception: If the property had a preexisting graveled parking area and is being maintained properly in accordance with the city ordinance it can remain. If at any time that a preexisting graveled area is overtaken by fifty percent or more with grass, weeds and dirt it will require to have an improved surface put in its place or removed.
As the city works hard to maintain the beauty and aesthetics of our neighborhoods your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
We wish to encourage you before you decide to purchase a load of gravel or install an improved surface area in your yard, please contact the city offices at (479)784-1031 - (479)784-1051 and ask to speak with an inspector and or permit officer.
