IMPAIRED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS TO CONTINUE
We are not letting up.
Fort Smith, AR - The Fort Smith Police, in partnership with the Arkansas State Police and Alcohol Beverage Control, are continuing to proactively address impaired driving in our city. This includes periodic and random sobriety checkpoints, increased focus on impaired driving, and increased compliance checks at businesses permitted for on-premise alcohol consumption. Since April 29, we have made 22 impaired driving arrests. Each one of these arrests stopped a potential tragedy like the one that occurred on the morning of April 27, 2022, when an impaired driver struck and killed Mr. Willie Kizer. This is the car that Mr. Kizer was traveling in when he went to pick up a friend, who had called him for a ride. Please do your part so that another Fort Smith family doesn't have to hear from us with the news that a loved one has died due to the actions of an impaired driver.
Don't let friends drive impaired. Call a designated driver or an Uber if you feel unsafe to drive. (Or call one for an impaired friend.) Secure an individual's car keys if they're insistent on driving while impaired. Dial 911 or 479-709-5000 if you suspect an impaired individual is about to get behind the wheel.
Please help us address this issue before one more life is lost. Thank you.
