Investing in the region

We're investing in the region’s economic future through long-term support for three major events expected to inject an estimated $34 million into the local economy.

Council will provide $90,000 in funding support, with the events projected to deliver an estimated return of 379:1 to the local economy for every dollar invested.

The three events include the Old Bar Beach Festival, the Barrington Coast Air Show and the Barrington Coast Beach 5s.

A key part of the agreements means each event will be provided support for three years. By providing long-term certainty, we’re giving organisers the confidence to grow these events, while helping local businesses plan for the increased visitation they bring.

The funding to support these events will come from our Grants, Donations and Sponsorship Program.

Work resumes in Wingham

Work on the roundabout at Wingham’s Primrose and Isabella Street intersection is back underway. Construction had been paused last week when a potential contamination was identified within the site forcing work to cease.

Treatment Plant upgrades on track

A major upgrade of the Hawks Nest Sewage Treatment Plant is on track to be completed in the first half of 2027. The multimillion dollar overhaul of the facility will ensure it can cater for the continued growth that Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest are forecast to experience over the coming decades.

Aquatics Strategy adopted

The MidCoast Aquatics Strategy has now been formally adopted, following endorsement at the 29 April 2026 Council meeting. Its adoption completes the full suite of planning documents, action plans and strategies that fall under the overarching Open Space and Recreation Strategy 2023-2035.
