Roads and Transportation will be picking up debris (trees, limbs, wood) from last week's storm for those that live in unincorporated Jefferson County. Items should be placed on the right-of-way for a single, one-time pickup, and a request made in the MyJeffCo App under Roads and Transportation "debris removal". If you do not want to use the MyJeffCo App, call 205-325-5141, and request pickup. All requests should be made by December 18, 2025.
The extension service recently published a good article on why residents should leave the leaves on their yard. We would like to add to please not blow them into gutters and storm drains. Here are some tips on what to do with your leaves instead.
Congratulations to Jefferson County Chief Coroner and Medical Examiner, Dr. Gregory Davis, on being named President of the American Society of Clinical Pathology. We are fortunate to have him serving the citizens of Jefferson County! You can read more about his accomplishments here.

We are continuing to work with the contractor to accelerate this project, but we regret to report that the opening of the road has been delayed until December 19, 2025, weather permitting. We have been in touch with the Mayor of Clay, the school board and EMS. We are meeting daily with the contractor and Central Alabama Water to keep the work moving. Some answers to questions that may have gotten lost on social media:
- The contractor has until February to complete the project. Reopening the road is just one stage of the overall contract and project.
- There were additional lost work days on Oct. 29, Oct. 30, Nov 10, and Nov 11. Please understand that doesn't mean just rain. There are materials, like concrete, that cannot be poured while temperatures are below freezing.
- There is a 12" water main relocation that still has to be done, but in the interest of time and reopening the road, the parties have agreed that work will be done after project completion.
- There are penalties if the contractor does not complete the project by the February date, but we do not expect that to be an issue.
- This is a complicated project that involves installing a new bridge, and many utilities above and below ground had to be moved. Some unmarked utilities were discovered in this process.
