And, if you are frying a turkey or anything else, please recycle your household cooking grease! You can do it for free at any one of our 21 locations! Just go pick up a container or use your own (no glass please) and drop it back off.
The Jefferson County Commission recognized the exceptional service of Judge James P. Naftel II, who has honorably served as Judge of Probate Place 1 for Jefferson County since his appointment by Governor Kay Ivey in 2020. For five years, Judge Naftel’s unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment to justice have positively impacted countless lives and strengthened our Probate Court system.
As a leader in probate practices, estate administration, and fiduciary litigation, Judge Naftel has provided invaluable guidance and strategic direction to the Jefferson County Probate Court. His integrity and passion for justice have been a cornerstone of his tenure, helping to ensure the continued success of the court and better serving the citizens of Jefferson County.
Judge Naftel also served as Chief Election Official during the challenging times of the pandemic, navigating unprecedented circumstances with resilience and steadfast commitment to our democratic process. A graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law (Magna Cum Laude) and the University of Mississippi (Summa Cum Laude), Judge Naftel exemplifies excellence in all he does.
Thank you, Judge Naftel, for your remarkable contributions to our community.
At it's last meeting of the year, Jefferson County Commissioners recognized employees with over 30 years of service. We are so thankful for their hard work and dedication. Some are retiring, but most are not. Some started with the County as teenagers and others later in life. Regardless of where they are in life, they obviously all share a passion for service.

In continuation of the Bell Hill Road improvements, Dickey Springs Road (East of Pocahontas Road) will be temporarily closed from Saturday, Jan. 4th at 3 p.m. — Sunday, Jan. 5th at midnight. During this time, traffic to and from Pocahontas Road (near J & J’s Grocery & Deli) should use Lindsey Loop Road as a temporary detour to access Dickey Springs Road.
While the area is expected to experience minimal impact, we encourage the traveling public to seek alternate routes if possible.
