In its meeting last week, the Jefferson County Commission recognized Jefferson County Probate Judge Sherri C. Friday for her 18 years of service and wished her well on her retirement.
Judge Friday's journey began in Jefferson County where she was born in 1963. A proud graduate of Mountain Brook High School, she pursued higher education at the University of Alabama, earning a BA in History and Political Science, followed by her Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law in 1989.
Her legal career blossomed alongside her father in general litigation, where she developed expertise in personal injury and family law. In 2006, she took office as Probate Judge, where she served with integrity and passion for nearly two decades.
Throughout her tenure, Judge Friday has worn many hats, including:
- Chair of the Education Committee for the Alabama Probate Judges Association (APJA).
- Recognized as Judge of the Year by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Alabama in 2010.
- An advocate for mental health policy reform, adoption, and elder law awareness.
Her leadership extended beyond the courtroom as a board member for organizations like The Heart Gallery of Alabama and Oasis Counseling Center, and earning accolades like the Jefferson County DHR Excellence in Foster Family Adoptions award.
Sydney Drive will be temporarily closed Dec. 11 - 19 for drainage work. Please see the detour map if you have questions. We appreciate your patience with this important work.
Commissioner Lashunda Scales hosted students (and teachers) from Huffman Middle School on a guided tour of the Jefferson County Courthouse as they learned about the structure and responsibilities of local, state, and national government within their social studies curriculum.
Among their many activities, students attended a live County Commission meeting; did a meet and greet with County leaders, and met with newly elected Probate Court Judge Jameria Moore. They also toured the historical Martin Luther King, Jr. 1967 Jail Cell Exhibit.
