Parkwood Road Bridge Completed - Early

Jefferson County Roads and Transportation reopened the Parkwood Road Bridge this week. The $1.5 million project, removed and replaced the bridge existing superstructure along with other paving and road improvements. The contractor completed the job early, which was a welcome sight to commuters in the area. We appreciate everyone's patience with this important work. Commission Passes Budget

In the Commission meeting last week, one of the biggest topics was approval of this coming year's budget. The budget was passed and has been posted on our website here. It included a 3.5% COLA for county employees and more than $67 million in capital improvement projects. We spent a few minutes with Barry Stephenson, Chair of the Board of Registrars, to discuss how people can make sure they are ready to vote in November. He covers where to go to check your registration, polling locations, and what you need to bring to the polls. (Hint: don't forget your ID)

Jefferson County Exits It's Last Remaining Consent Decree

The Jefferson County Commission filed a joint motion with the Cahaba River Society to be released from a 1996 consent decree over rehabilitation of the sewer system. You can read the joint release on our website here. As a part of the agreement, the County agreed to complete several sewer projects (that are already in progress) by 2027. You can view a map of sewer projects on the Environmental Services website here. U.S. District Court Judge David Proctor signed off on the motion last week.
