Jefferson County Commissioners cut the ribbon on a new display at the Jefferson County Courthouse (2nd floor outside of Commission Chambers) The exhibit shows the history of the Birmingham Industrial League, which started in 1928 and is still going today. At the ribbon cutting Dr. Layton Revel founder of the Negro Southern League Museum and researcher for this exhibit presented a special recognition to Jack Swain, who won more championship trophies than any other manager in the league. Many of the players showed up to view the exhibit. This is just the beginning of larger exhibits that the Commission is funding that will be placed at Regions and Rickwood Field preserving this important part of baseball history in Jefferson County. It will be here through October!.
Commissioner Scales joined the Osprey Initiative Friday for the install of a new litter trapping boom on Village Creek. The folks from Osprey will check the boom, remove litter, and recycle it. This will help keep litter from reaching Bayview Lake. The Commission has invested $125k a year for 3 years to fund these devices throughout the County.
