Jefferson County Roads and Transportation wants your feedback on the proposed new Lakeshore Extension Project. The project is estimated to cost $12.5 million and is funded by Jefferson County and ALDOT. Currently the plan is to start construction in the fall of 2024, and last approximately 24 months. While some travel lane closures will be necessary, it is expected that Morgan Road and Lakeshore Parkway will remain open at all times and access to businesses and residences will be maintained. Temporary Bridge Closure: Jefferson County will temporarily close the bridge on Parkwood Road starting Feb. 27 – Sept. 30, 2024, to resurface it and make other improvements. To do this work Parkwood Road will be closed at Shades Creek beginning Feb. 27, 2024, and no through traffic will be permitted. All traffic on Parkwood Road from AL Hwy 150 to Morgan Road will be required to take an alternate route and the detour will be posted clearly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and cooperation with this important work.
There were tears of joy along with warm hugs of gratitude this week as the Jefferson County Commission joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham for the construction kickoff, home dedications, and ribbon cutting in the Hopewell Crossing Community for some special families.
Changing lives through first time homeownership is one of the many ways Jefferson County is using its federal ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding in partnership with area organizations.
These projects were supported in whole or in part by federal award SLFRF1176 awarded to Jefferson County Commission by the U.S. Department of Treasury.
