June 20, 2023 Update

Old Tuscaloosa Hwy Project

Jefferson County Roads and Transportation held a community meeting in McCalla last week about the upcoming widening of Old Tuscaloosa Hwy. We appreciate all who came out and asked questions. McAshan Drive and 59/20 Interchange Project

There has been a significant amount of development that has occurred along Old Tuscaloosa Highway that has created a poor level of service along the McAshan corridor from Rock Mountain Lake Rd to Old Tuscaloosa Hwy. Jefferson County was awarded a grant administered through the State, for improvements to be made to the interchange of McAshan Dr at I-59/20, which will include an interchange modification and lane additions from I-59/20 to Bay Drive (Phase 1). To be constructed concurrently with Phase 1, the County plans to continue the widening of McAshan Drive to 5-lanes from Bay Drive to Old Tuscaloosa Highway (Phase 2). Mark Your Calendars: Public Meetings on Comprehensive County Development Plan

The County will hold three public meetings to get input on a new Comprehensive County Plan. We will send more information in the coming weeks but mark your calendars to attend one in your area. Each meeting will be from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Monday, July 31 at Clay-Chalkville High school
Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Gardendale Civic Center
Thursday, Aug. 4 at McAdory High School.

We will be publishing special interactive webpages for citizens to provide input as well.
