Our annual Hazardous Waste Drop Off Day is happening on April 29, 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at three locations:

• First Baptist Church Gardendale, 940 Main Street
• Classic Car Motoring: 3900 Grants Mill Road in Irondale
• City of Bessemer Public Works Laydown Yard, 1205 15th Ave. N. 

You can bring: ammunition, appliances, batteries, electronics, household cooking grease, motor oil and antifreeze, paint, paper shredding, pesticides, fertilizers, prescription drugs and tires (no rims). This is for residents and not businesses.

There is a new tax exemption for Jefferson County residents that are over 65. It essentially freezes your property value for the year. You have until the end of April to claim it for this year. If you miss it, no worries, you can claim it next year. There is a lot of confusion between the 2 exemptions so we did a podcast with the Tax Assessor.
