Tune In To Your Jefferson County Commission
At the beginning of the pandemic the Jefferson County Commission started livestreaming its Commission meetings. Since that time we upgraded our system, added cameras, and now have an indexed online archive of all Commission Meetings and Planning and Zoning meetings. You can find it all by clicking on the link below. And, you don’t have to watch the entire meeting to get information on a particular item. You can look at the accompanying agenda item, and click on that item and it will take you to the place in video. The meetings are broadcast live and can be watched on our website, Facebook page (JeffersonCountyAL), Twitter @JeffCoToday, or YouTube Channel.

How Do I Get A Pothole Fixed?
Jefferson County has an app called MyJeffCo you can download for (Ios) Apple or Android phones. Once you have an account you can enter items like paving requests, report a pothole, report illegal dumping and a bunch of other items. The app also has an extensive searchable FAQ section that will link you to departments for questions on tag renewal, voting, links to courts, how to contact your commissioner, and how to sign up for emergency weather communications. We are constantly working to improve the app and our services based on the requests – so when citizens use it, it helps us provide better service. If you are concerned about creating an account, please know we don’t and won't sell or provide your information to other entities.

Why Recycle Electronics?
Recycling old TV’s, computers, phones, printers, and generally all old electronics helps keep these items out of our landfills. As an example, our January 28th Electronics Day at the Birmingham Zoo collected items from 635 households totaling 36,740 pounds. In weight that’s the equivalent of nearly three mature male elephants like Bulwagi – who you can visit on your next trip to the Birmingham Zoo.
Beyond serving those in our community, an event like this means recycling materials like coltan, a metal that is mined for items like electronics, and comes from areas where gorillas, chimpanzees, and elephants live. So recycling, reusing, and reducing consumption of materials in this case helps to better protect vital habitats and protect these species.
For more opportunities to keep your community clean check out our #KeepItClean page.
Also save the date for our annual Hazardous Waste Drop Off Day on April 29!

Do you live in one of Jefferson County's 35 municipalities? Need to look up your elected officials? Curious about a parcel of land and want to look up ownership? Jefferson County has worked with several cooperating entities to provide a free GIS portal where you can look up this type of public information anytime. Go the front of our website: jccal.org look at the red band under the videos on the far right for an icon that says "county maps". It's a very useful tool. And, please note that if you live in a city -- that city is generally responsible for providing services like paving and garbage pickup.
