Instructor Banquet

The annual hunter education instructor banquet will be held at our new hunter education facility in Shelby County. We will have a catered lunch, awards, and dove shoot. The event is free to attend for hunter education instructors and your family. The event will start at 11 a.m. and last until dark. Please RSVP by September 15 so that we can have an accurate headcount for lunch. The address to the facility is 19208 Highway 25, Columbiana, Alabama.

Background Checks

It is time for us to conduct background checks on our current hunter education volunteers. This is a requirement for you to continue as an active hunter education instructor if you have been volunteering for over 5 years. If you haven’t already sent in your new background check authorization form, please do so. If you have not received the new form, please contact Jennifer Dilly at  jennifer.dilly@dcnr.alabama.gov and she will email you one. If you have any questions, please contact our office at (334) 242-3620.

IHEA-USA Hunter Education Instructor of the Year

Congratulations to Tony Landenwich for being the recipient of the 50 for 50 IHEA-USA Award presented by Sig Sauer. This award honors one hunter educator in each state for rising above and beyond their normal duties in 2022. Thank you, Tony, for your hard work last year and every year. We appreciate you tremendously!

Major Changes for the 2023-2024 Season

• Expanded Deer CMZ High Risk Zone to include all of Lauderdale County.
• Changed nighttime season dates for Coyote & Feral Swine to end opening day of archery deer season.
• Changed caliber from .30 to .25 for pre-charged pneumatic air powered guns for Bobcat, Groundhog, Unprotected Wildlife, Fox, Coyote and Feral Swine.
• No Walleye possession from the Duck River Reservoir.
