Alabama State Parks E-Newsletter - February Issue

A new project to improve the catfish fishery at Lake Frank Jackson inside Frank Jackson State Park got underway recently. More than 5,000 harvestable-sized channel catfish were released. Improving our parks for the local communities is a priority. 

Discover some of the most beautiful parts of Alabama by visiting the new ORV course at Lakepoint State Park. The course has been built on the re-purposed old "Sanctuary" golf course close to the cabins, marina and lodge inside the park. Take advantage of the overnight accommodations and restaurant to enjoy a turnkey family ORV getaway.

Attention Campers - We are gearing up to introduce the new campground at Joe Wheeler State Park. These campsites are larger, better situated and feature improved views across Wheeler Lake. Check out the new campground at Cathedral Caverns State Park in the meantime. 

Park Spotlight - Conveniently located near I-10, near Mobile, Alabama, Meaher State Park is a campers delight. It's also stop on the Alabama Birding Trails and a great place to bird watch. Make your plans!

You still have time to plan a visit to Lake Guntersville State Park for Eagle Awareness Weekends. These weekends feature overnight packages, live bird demonstrations and programs provided by notable speakers, guided field trips for viewing eagles in their natural habitat, and the natural beauty of the mountains and Lake Guntersville. Make your plans!

Calling all golfers - Spring season is just around the corner and brand new golf carts have been delivered to Joe Wheeler State Park. Check out these Alabama State Parks golf courses:

• The General - Joe Wheeler State Park
• The Eagle's Nest - Lake Guntersville State Park
• The Oaks - Oak Mountain State Park

Over the past 83 years, trails have been a fundamental part of the park system’s mission. Because of this, we created the Dirt Pass Trail Crew Program. This program is a way to voluntarily donate $35 per year to help support our efforts to improve our trail system. Your money goes directly to the maintenance, enhancement and planning of the Alabama State Parks trails system. All Dirt Pass membership donations are made online and each donating Dirt Pass member will receive a cool, Trail Crew t-shirt to show your pride in our program.

Don't forget to purchase a new Alabama State Parks car tag in 2022. Last names that begin with the letter B renew this month. Last names that begin with the letters C and E renew in March. For all you boat owners, we also have a boat tag and the same rules apply.
