Archery Season Will Be Here Soon!

Several schools already have local tournaments listed at www.nasptournaments.org. Be sure to check them out as they are a great way to get in some practice before tournament season. Our employees really missed seeing you in person last year due to COVID-19, but they are anxiously looking forward to seeing you at our regional and state events in 2022!

NASP's Academic Archer Program

This program was established by NASP to promote and recognize academic excellence among the over two million students who participate in NASP annually. Alabama has had several students selected in the past to win a free bow and Easton prize pack. This is a great way to recognize your students hard work in the classroom and on the archery range.

You designate your students as Academic Archers on the nasptournaments.org website. Students are eligible to be Academic Archers based on local criteria set by the school or district. Students who take part in NASP lessons may be designated as academic archers even if they are not on your archery team. Frame worthy certificates are available to be printed for each academic archer. Academic archers are also automatically entered in drawings for prizes from NASP.

Remember, your students must be registered as academic archers to win NASP scholarships, either nationally or in Alabama at the state tournament. We’ve had a couple of students selected for scholarships in the past who were not registered as academic archers and therefore were not eligible for their awards.

Alabama has been recognized by NASP the last several years for being in the Top 5 nationally for level of participation in the Academic Archer Program. This recognition is thanks to you and your students working hard in the classroom and on the range. Please continue to recognize your students in this special way.

NASP Required Online Reporting

If you did not teach NASP or report for 2020-2021 and NASP has suspended your instructor status, you will need to complete a short online refresher to be reinstated. You must teach or assist with ten hours of NASP instruction each year and report online to maintain your active status.

One instructor from each school must report having taught in-school NASP lessons to comply with the rule requiring 10 hours of instruction. If you find your status terminated by NASP then you will need to take another BAI class. BAI classes are scheduled as needed, keep a check on the schedule at www.naspbai.org.

To meet federal funding requirements for the program, the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries requires a separate written report. This is different than the paper report you submit online each year to NASP. We are working on an online reporting system for this requirement, but in the meantime the paper report you submit to is available HERE. 

NASP 3D/IBO

The NASP 3D/IBO Program is a fast growing and challenging next step for the typical NASP school. More than 300 students competed in the North Alabama and South Alabama 3D Championships in 2021. The State 3D Tournament will be 3D Tournaments are also listed at www.nasptournaments.org.

The State 3D tournament is open to all schools!

2022 Rules and Teacher Resources

The 2022 rules are posted at www.outdooralabama.com/archery-schools/nasp-teacher-resources.

You will also find many resources to help you in the classroom and on the range. Explore the material at www.naspschools.org as well to enhance your program.

2022 Regional and State Tournaments

The Alabama Archery in the Schools State Championship will be held on April 7-8, 2022, in Montgomery at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex. Pre-registration will open on January 18, 2022. Updated information on State and the invitation process may be found HERE.

There will be eight regional tournaments in 2022. Registration for all regionals will begin on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 7 a.m. Pre-registration will open on December 14, 2021. Registration for all tournaments will take place at www.nasptournaments.org and remember times listed on that site are often in Eastern and designated as such. We will normally send out registration information with central times, do not be confused by the difference.

Registration for all tournaments, especially State and Regionals, can be very competitive. To have the best chance of getting the flight times you want for your team, you must pre-register and be prepared to register as soon as it opens!

2021 NASP World Tournament

Ninety-three (93) students from 13 Alabama schools were in attendance at the 2021 NASP World Tournament. Four individuals placed in the top three of their respective divisions in the Championship portion of the event. Additionally, Causey Middle School in Mobile, Alabama, took 1st place in the Overall Middle School Division, and Cullman’s East Elementary School placed 5th in the Elementary School Division. Causey also took 2nd place in the Overall Middle School Division of the IBO/3D Challenge at the Myrtle Beach event.

Grant Money Available!

We have $1,000 grants plus a net for five schools that do not have equipment and have not previously received a grant. Schools must have an active BAI and its portion of the remaining cost (approximately $1,800). Grants are given on a first come first serve basis.
