Sandwort

Appalachian Sandwort

Sandwort is another tough plant that can live in thin soil and hot rocky areas. It also has a short growing period, much like Elf Orpine and is only about 6 in. tall. Appalachian Sandwort is just starting to bloom now. Its tiny little white blooms are spectacular in mass among the greens of lichen and reds of Elf Orpine. If you do get to visit a glade in the park sometime, be sure to think like a ant and marvel at the tiny forest in the rocky depressions.
