Alabama State Parks E-Newsletter - January issue

Did you see the story about Alabama's new bicentennial stamp? The art for the special stamp honoring our state's 200th birthday is a beautiful photo taken at Cheaha State Park by Joe Miller. It will be unveiled in Huntsville on Feb. 23. 

Don't forget to purchase a new Alabama State Parks car tag in 2019. Last names that begin with the letters A and D renew during the month of January. Last names with the letter B renew in February. For all you boat owners, we also have a boat tag and the same rules apply. This is a new form of much needed revenue for us. Watch the video. 

Employee Spotlight - Lauren Muncher
Oak Mountain State Park is thrilled to announce their new Naturalist. Lauren officially joined the Alabama State Parks System in November 2018. Through her biology studies, her work with the Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, and her involvement with the Alabama Wildlife Center she has obtained over 5 years of experience in wildlife conservation through research and environmental education. Follow the Oak Mountain FB page or visit the events section of alapark.com to keep up with all scheduled events.   

Over the past 80 years, trails have been a fundamental part of the park system’s mission. Because of this, we created the Dirt Pass Trail Crew Program in 2016. This program is a way to voluntarily donate $35 per year to help support our efforts to improve our trail system. Your money goes directly to the maintenance, enhancement and planning of the Alabama State Parks trails system. All Dirt Pass membership donations are made online and each donating Dirt Pass member will receive a cool, Trail Crew t-shirt to show your pride in our program.

First Day Hikes continue to gain in popularity across the country. Here in Alabama, we had seven different State Parks participate with more than 300 hikers. Weather was on our side and it was a pleasure hosting such enthusiastic hikers. Kudos to all of our park naturalists for making this fun for everyone.
