In celebration of National Camping Month Alabama Outdoors is selling State Parks t-shirts. Pick one up at any of their store locations. All net proceeds will be donated to the Alabama State Parks. While you are there you can also make your $35 donation to the Alabama State Parks Dirt Pass Trail Crew Program and receive your wristband. Alabama Outdoors is also running a social media campaign, posting pics on Instagram can win you prizes. Join the fun! Promotion ends June 30th.

Don't forget to purchase a new Alabama State Parks car tag in 2017. Last names that begin with the letter M and I renew their tags this month. Last names that begin with the letters P and L renew in July. This will be a new form of much needed revenue for us. Yet another great reason why the Amendment 2 victory was so important to us. Now, this money stays where it belongs-at the parks. Thank you Park supporters!

If you are interested in helping support the Alabama State Parks trail system consider donating to the Dirt Pass Trail Crew Program. A $35 annual donation can be made online or at one of the participating parks. Your donation will go specifically to the improvement of our trails system.

We think turtles and tortoises are pretty cool. Join us at Wind Creek State Park on Saturday, June 24th for Terrific Turtle and Tortoise Day. The Auburn Museum of Natural History and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will team up to discuss the gopher tortoise and their positive impact on other species.

Our parks staff does a great job of creating events that are fun for the family. Check out the events section of alapark.com to see them all at a glance. Below are a few events coming up:

Attention youngsters that are interested in becoming Park Rangers! Gulf State Park is conducting a Junior Ranger program that educates kids on what it takes to be a Park Ranger. Learn about the ecosystems within the park and earn your Junior Ranger badge.

We understand the importance of sports in the life of a child. We have partnered with DCH Health system to sponsor the second annual Dirt, Sweat and Gears Duathlon at Lake Lurleen State Park on June 24. This is a great way to support area school athletic programs.

Cheaha State Park has a brand new crop of employees and they are excited about the future of the park. New Park Manager Callie Thornton and new Operations and Events Supervisor Renee Raney have hit the ground running and invite everyone to come meet them. Kudos goes out to Cheaha State Park for earning the gold standard in the Leave No Trace outdoor ethics program.

Treat Dad to an outdoor excursion for Father's Day and when you are done treat him to a delicious lunch buffet at one of our restaurants:

The 4th of July is an exciting time around our parks. From the firework shows at Gulf, Oak Mountain and Lakepoint State Parks to the list of events at Joe Wheeler State Park we have a schedule that works for the entire family. Make your plans to stay with us as we celebrate our independence.

You will be seeing these signs from time to time as we begin long overdue improvement projects throughout the park system. Thanks to your support and the overwhelming passage of Amendment 2, we are finally able to focus on our facilities. We hope these improvements will provide you a better park experience.
