DeSoto State Park and park partners like Little River Canyon National Preserve, Jacksonville State University Field School, One World Adventure Company, Georgia-Alabama Land Trust, Russell Cave National Monument, Seven Pines Survival and more, team up to bring you many fun events throughout the year.

Campfire Talks, Classes, Demonstrations, Guided Interpretive or Fitness Hikes, Tours, Workshops and much more! Most programs are free, or charge a small supply fee.

DeSoto State Park also adds local community events to our calendar, so that we can help our guests and visitors make their visit to Lookout Mountain, Alabama even more memorable.

2017 Calendar of Events Coming Soon!

Dec.17th-Yoga on the Mountain Interested in starting your day in a positive way? Enjoy a yoga class in a beautiful place! This yoga class is alignment based which makes the class perfect for those beginning their yoga practice. Deidre has completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training and is registered with Yoga Alliance. Classes open to local residents and park visitors alike.

Dec.17th-Blow your own Ornament Orbix Hot Glass is a glass blowing studio and gallery on Lookout Mountain that offers fine decorative and functional glass, as well as very popular glass blowing classes.Design and literally “blow” your own ornament with the help of a glass artist.

Dec.18th-Christmas at the Opera House Concert: Justin Chain with Matt Bigler Justin Chain is a Nashville based singer/songwriter from Fort Payne Alabama, and was on Season 5 of "The Voice" Team Blake.

Jan. 1st-First Day Hike-Hike to Martha’s Falls Join the DeSoto State Park, Little River Canyon Preserve National Park Service, and JSU Field Schools staff on a beautiful outdoor adventure/hike from the Little River Canyon Center to Little River Falls and on to Martha’s Falls. This hike is a moderately difficult 4 mile hike. Meet at the Little River Canyon Center for pre-hike orientation.

Thanks to the legislature, starting January of 2017 you will now have an option of purchasing an Alabama State Parks car tag. 

The renewal process remains the same; simply request an Alabama State Parks car tag during the renewal procedure and 80% of your money will go directly to help fund the Alabama State Parks (20% goes to normal administrative fees). This will be a new form of much needed revenue for us. Yet another great reason why the Amendment 2 victory was so important to us. Now, this money stays where it belongs-at the parks.
