Alabama Attorney General Marshall Joins Fight for Religious Liberty and School Choice at U.S. Supreme Court
Montgomery, Ala) – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirming his commitment to defending religious liberty and school choice. The brief addresses two pivotal cases from Oklahoma that will determine whether States that make funds available to charter schools can discriminate against schools with a religious mission. The attorneys general argue that the Oklahoma State Supreme Court’s decision to block a Catholic virtual charter school from operating purely based on its religious affiliation is unconstitutional.
"Religious liberty is the cornerstone of our great nation, and our coalition will stand firm as a safeguard against governments that discriminate against religious institutions. We will relentlessly fight to ensure that the highest court in the land upholds the right of schools to not be denied public benefits based on religion,” stated Attorney General Marshall.
This ongoing legal battle is part of Attorney General Marshall’s broader commitment to protecting religious freedom and expanding educational opportunities. The outcome of this case could set a significant precedent for school choice and the role of religious institutions in education nationwide.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments in these cases on April 30.
In addition to Alabama in the South Carolina led brief, the brief is supported by attorneys general from Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas.
