Quitting tobacco is one of the best things you can do for your health. No matter how long you’ve used tobacco, there are health benefits when you quit. Your heart rate drops. Your lung function improves. You reduce your chances of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and lung disease. Quitting also protects those around you from secondhand smoke and can set an example for your family, friends and community.
However, quitting tobacco and nicotine products can be difficult, and it can take a few tries before it sticks. You have the best chances of quitting for good by using quit coaching and nicotine replacement therapy. Nicotine replacement therapies such as gum, lozenges and patches help reduce urges and cravings related to nicotine withdrawal. They give your body a smaller and smaller amount of nicotine, until you taper off it over several weeks. This helps reduce urges to smoke, chew, vape, or use pouches. It can also help make withdrawal symptoms easier to handle.
Alaska’s Tobacco Quit Line offers free, confidential support to quit all forms of tobacco and nicotine. Free nicotine replacement therapy and quit coaching are available to all adults in Alaska who enroll. You choose what works for you. Services are available through telephone, text, web, and app, and quit coaches are available 24/7.
When you’re ready to be free from tobacco and nicotine, Alaska’s Tobacco Quit Line is ready to help:
Aetna offers dedicated nurse care managers to support you every step of the way through an oncology diagnosis. They’re here for you and your family by helping you understand your course of treatment, prepare for or recover from a planned procedure, and stay supported throughout your journey.

A nurse care manager may reach out to you directly by phone or through a letter inviting you to connect. You can also take the initiative to get started by calling the number on your Aetna ID card (855) 784-8646 (TTY: 711). or requesting support through your Aetna member portal.
Best of all, this service is completely free! It is included in your benefits. Aetna’s program is designed to give you and your family the support, clarity, and confidence you deserve during this time.
There’s nothing quite like hiking to get your blood pumping and your heart singing. The feeling of sunshine on your face, the sound of the trees rustling, and the sensation of trail under your feet can do both your mind and body so much good. In fact, hiking has been shown to lower your blood pressure, increase your strength, improve your focus, and maybe even enhance your immune system, according to a 2018 review published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine.
Don’t let pain hold you back from hitting the hiking trail. Get five exercises from Hinge Health physical therapists to reduce knee pain for hikers and ways to modify your hike, build resilience, and keep moving comfortably. Your Hinge Health benefit provides virtual physical therapy and more — at no cost to you — to treat pain and stiffness and keep you moving.

You can help keep your heart and blood vessels healthy by having a heart-healthy lifestyle. These healthy habits include eating healthy, being active, staying at a weight that's healthy for you, getting the screening tests you need, and not smoking.
A heart-healthy lifestyle is important for everyone, not just for people with existing health problems. It can help you keep your heart and blood vessels healthy. If you already have health problems, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure, a healthy lifestyle can help you lower your risk of a heart attack and stroke.
-
If you smoke, vape, or use other tobacco or nicotine products, try to quit. If you can’t quit, cut back as much as you can. If you need help quitting, talk to your doctor about quit programs and medicines. Quitting is one of the most important things you can do to protect your heart. Also avoid secondhand smoke and the aerosol mist from vaping.
-
Eat healthy foods. Eating healthy foods is one of the best things you can do to prevent and control many health problems, including heart and blood vessel disease.
-
Limit alcohol use. Heavy alcohol consumption can increase the risk of heart problems.
-
Be active. Improving your fitness is good for your heart and blood vessels, as well as the rest of your body. Being active helps lower your risk of health problems. And it helps you feel good.
-
Stay at a weight that's healthy for you. Talk to your doctor if you need help losing weight. A healthy weight can help keep your heart and body as healthy as possible.
-
Get a healthy amount of sleep. Try to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. This amount of sleep can help your heart, body, and mind stay as healthy as possible.
-
Manage other health problems. Managing health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, can help keep your heart and body as healthy as possible. If you think you may have a problem with alcohol or drug use, talk to your doctor.
Get screening tests. Seeing your doctor regularly and getting screening tests is important. The sooner your doctor diagnoses a disease, the more likely it can be cured or managed. The tests you might have to check your risk for heart and blood vessel problems depend on your age, health, sex, and risk factors. Talk to your doctor to find out which tests are right for you.
