June | VOLUME #118
Fiscal Year 2015
The Division of Retirement and Benefits will apply Fiscal Year 2015 PERS and TRS employer on-behalf funding, provided by Senate Bill (SB) 119 (Section 48), to payrolls received in our office by July 15, 2015. Fiscal Year 2015 covers payrolls containing payroll end dates from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
After the July 15, 2015 cutoff has been reached and all applicable payrolls have been processed, the Division will complete the annual on-behalf funding true-up. We anticipate sending employer on-behalf year-end statements that include the true-up by early August 2015 via email.
We are beginning our planning for the
2015-2016 travel season, which will run from late August 2015 through May 2016, with a break in November and December. To maximize our travel budget, Regional Counselors
may schedule community visits to employers of both the Public Employees’
Retirement System (PERS) and Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) when schedules
permit.
Many of our community visits have
been fine-tuned over time to better meet the needs of the various communities
we visit. For the coming 2015-2016 travel season, if you have special needs or
circumstances (a large group of employees in for training, etc.) that may be
taking place around the normal visitation times of your counselor’s visit, let
them know so they can better coordinate resources with you and your staff.
Options that can be explored prior to
your counselor’s visit:
- Personal one-on-one counseling with
your employees
- Formal and Informal presentations to employees
- Informal “question and answer”
sessions with employees
You can find information about your
counselor on our website.
Even though a large number of Alaska
communities benefit from Regional Counselor visits, timing or cost constraints
may prevent many communities from receiving personal visits. In addition to
visits by Regional Counselors, the Division of Retirement and Benefits can also
offer a number of online and “WebEx” training opportunities to you and your
staff through:
- Interactive group training sessions
with a Retirement Specialist
- Personalized training courses recorded
and focused on your specific staff’s needs
- Recorded information and
presentations that can be accessed at any time to clarify and inform your
employees on their benefits
Make sure to contact your counselor
if you have special needs or events this coming travel season. If you are
interested in how your staff could benefit from additional online training, please contact:

We would like to thank all those who participated in the
survey and those employers who took the time to participate in the Employer
Service Verification Task Force. It is our hope that we are able to identify
key areas of improvement through a cooperative effort between the Employers and
the Division of Retirement and Benefits. To date, we have completed our initial
review of the information provided on the Employer Questionnaire and we are
currently working on a final proposal. Once we have completed the final
proposal, we will make the information available.
