Dear Alaska Medicaid Behavioral Health Provider:
October is here and the phase one “soft launch” with our independent providers has launched successfully. As claims are trickling in, we are watching very closely to identify and correct any errors or pain points. In these early days as minor issues are identified, providers may be contacted to work through specific claim issues or asked to rebill specific claims. Every day, we meet with Health Care Services (HCS) and HMS Gainwell to report any trends or issues that need attention. So far, there is not much to report. We hope this trend continues as we move closer to our final November 1 transition.
Please read all the way through the following updates and let us know if you have any question about any of the topics.
Phase One Provider Payments
The first payments are about to head out the door. EFTs go out on Thursdays and checks are normally mailed to be received by Friday. RAs are usually available online Wednesday mornings.
Reminder of Behavioral Health Dedicated Phone Number
To help us better track any behavioral health specific issues that come in by phone, please remember to use the dedicated phone line for HMS Gainwell.
The new phone number is 855-293-3568, and office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm AKST.
New Billing Manuals Available
Two new Billing Manuals have been published and are now available on the Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise Website.
- Autism Services
- Community Behavioral Health Services
The Community Behavioral Health Services Manual includes information for Independent Providers and Mental Health Physician Clinics.
TPL Follow Up
We acknowledge that the TPL process with the MMIS is not efficient and causes additional administrative burden on the providers and staff. Our team, in partnership with Health Care Services, is dedicated to modernizing the TPL process and State Plan requirements. While automated/electronic improvements will take time, our teams are continuously brainstorming ideas on what we can do to relieve the burden sooner. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.
Provider Outreach
Phase one providers have been contacted and we are midway through the final phase provider outreach efforts. We appreciate everyone’s patience through this process to ensure provider information is accurate and ready for the MMIS. At any time, providers may submit their enrollment changes directly to HMS Gainwell. Provider enrollment forms can be accessed on the Health Enterprise Provider Portal.
1115 Waiver BH Groups
For all new rendering provider applications, please add the provider specialty of 154 - Waiver BH. This will streamline the application process with HMS Gainwell.
Peer Support Specialist (PSS) and Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) Approval Updates
Effective immediately, DBH will no longer send PSS and QAP approvals via postal mail. DBH will send the approvals via email. This updated process not only saves time, but it also allows for better tracking and documentation.
