This report contains bills and budget items that passed during the 2022 legislative session which affect Alaska Mental Health Trust beneficiaries (individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chronic alcohol or drug addiction, alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, traumatic brain injuries).

6th Annual Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) Conference Sept 13-15, 9:00am-2:30pm AKDT
The Alaska Division of Behavioral Health is bringing together local, national, and international speakers to discuss best practices in providing care to individuals who use opioids and stimulants. The topics include systemic solutions to opioid use, OUD treatment for pregnant and parenting individuals, contingency management and addressing stigma and racial disparities in care.
Included at the conference will be the "Resilient Journeys" video series which will continue to highlight the voices of people with lived experience of substance use and recovery.

Grand Re-opening Ceremony - POWER Center 2601 Arctic Blvd, Anchorage August 11, 3:30-5:00pm AKDT
The POWER Center is a drop-in center for youth ages 13-23 and is open Monday- Friday, 1:00-5:00pm. The center offers free laundry and showers, food, access to a kitchen, clothing and toiletries, help with rental assistance applications, free bus passes and other community resources, access to on-site mental health services and weekly game days and educational presentations.

Free 2022 Suicide Prevention Summit August 19 -21 and then on-demand for one week
This summit is hosted by the Mental Health Academy, American Counseling Association, American Association of Suicidology, National Board for Certificate Counselors & Associates and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Sessions include how faith leaders are essential in local and national efforts to end suicide, suicide prevention for older adults and youth, reducing suicide rates amount LGBT youth of color and other topics.

How Being Trauma-Informed Improves Criminal Justice System Responses September 15, 8:00am-12:00pm SCF Nuka Building
Southcentral Foundation Family Wellness Warriors was selected to implement SAMHSA’s GAINS Center trauma-informed response training within the community. This training was developed for criminal justice professionals to raise awareness about trauma and its effects.

What Youth Say About Their Reentry Needs
At a webinar sponsored by the Performance-based Standards Learning Institute, young people spoke candidly about the struggles they faced when reentering their communities after confinement in residential facilities. The panelists offered suggestions to better prepare system-involved youth for life in their communities.
